Former South Alabama shortstop Drew LaBounty, who suffered a career-ending eye injury in February, was selected in the 40th and final round of the 2018 MLB draft on Wednesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays took LaBounty with the 1196th pick of the three-day draft. The pick was a symbolic one, but did not go unappreciated by Jaguars coach Mark Calvi:
Happy for All our guys..they have meant so much to me and this program..but this kid here (Drew LaBounty), what he's done can't be measured. Thanks so much to Don Norris and the Toronto Bluejays for knowing.
