Chase Lambert and Zach Greene combined for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen as South Alabama topped Georgia Southern 5-3 in their Sun Belt Conference tournament opener in Lafayette, La., on Wednesday.
Lambert threw three innings of one-hit ball and Greene pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to back starter Tyler Carr, who worked the first five. The fourth-seeded Jaguars (31-23) won despite getting out hit 10-6, taking advantage of some sloppy defense by the Eagles (29-25) in the early innings.
"We bent but we didn't break today," South Alabama coach Mark Calvi said in his postgame comments on ESPN+.
