Mississippi State did not name a starting quarterback on Monday, listing junior Damian Williams, sophomore Nick Fitzgerald and redshirt freshman Nick Tiano all as first-teamers with the familiar "or" between them.
Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen later indicated Williams and Fitzgerald would both play in Saturday's season-opener against South Alabama (11 a.m., SEC Network). The smart money to start is on Fitzgerald, the top back-up last season to departed star Dak Prescott.
Nevertheless, the Jaguars are practicing as if both Williams and Fitzgerald will play. South Alabama safety Devon Earl said either Bulldogs QB will have plenty of weapons at his disposal.
