Several schools publicly identified their starting quarterbacks on Monday, but South Alabama wasn't one of them.
Head coach Steve Campbell said during his press conference to preview Saturday's season-opener against Louisiana Tech that seniors Cole Garvin and Evan Orth and redshirt freshman Cephus Johnson were still battling for the starting quarterback job. No starter is likely to be named prior to Saturday.
"We have three guys who have worked very hard," Campbell said. "Any time there's a quarterback battle or controversy - it's only a controversy if you make it a controversy. It's not controversial to us, in that room.
