South Alabama cornerback Gus Nave on Monday was named Sun Belt Conference special teams player of the week, but is sidelined indefinitely due to injury.
Nave, a true freshman, ran a blocked field goal back 83 yards for a touchdown in USA's 45-0 victory over Alabama A&M last Saturday. However, he left the game in the third quarter with a left knee injury that occurred when he was tackled following his first career interception.
Jaguars head coach Joey Jones said Nave, who made his first career start against Alabama A&M, was still being evaluated. Nave was starting in place of sophomore Bobby Flott, who aggravated an offseason knee injury in the previous week's game against Oklahoma State.
