A South Alabama team that was a 31-point underdog at Memphis on Saturday kept it close for nearly three quarters before the Tigers pulled away for a 52-35 victory at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
Darrell Henderson ran for 188 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, who improve to 3-1 this season. Memphis piled up 563 yards of offense, 271 on the ground.
Nevertheless, South Alabama (1-3) had the ball and a chance to take the lead in the final moments of the third quarter. Evan Orth passed for a career-best 360 yards and three touchdowns, hitting Jamarius Way 10 times for 185 yards.
