South Alabama had one big offensive inning Friday night against Texas State, and Randy Bell did the rest.
The Jaguars scored seven runs in the fifth inning to spark an 8-3 victory over the visiting Bobcats in the opener of a Sun Belt Conference baseball series at Stanky Field. Meanwhile, Bell went all nine innings on the mound in a five-hitter, retiring 16 of the final 18 Texas State hitters of the night.
"I thought Randy was really good," South Alabama coach Mark Calvi said. "Really proud of Randy's effort and proud of the at-bats that we had.
