South Alabama football enthusiasts are awaiting votes on the school's funding request from the City of Mobile for $10 million and from Mobile County for $5 million for an on-campus stadium.
But does that mean the project stalls if the funding is denied?
Not necessarily, according to South Alabama athletics director Joel Erdmann, who joined me and Lee Shirvanian on Friday on "The Opening Kickoff" on WNSP-FM 105.5.
"We would consider breaking ground but would definitely tap the breaks going beyond the ground work and the retention walls," Erdmann explained. "The bottom line, according to our financial solution, is we've got to have a certain level of comfortness of secured monies - whether it is public or private in nature - to carry out this project from beginning to end.
