Spring is a time for experimentation around college football, particularly when a new coaching staff arrives on the scene.
One change that looks like it will be permanent occurred at South Alabama, where redshirt sophomore Riley Cole moved from inside linebacker to outside. He finished the spring as the first-teamer at the "Bandit" position, a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker that puts a premium on being able to rush the passer.
"Riley can rush the passer, but we also ask that guy to do some linebacker things, and Riley's got that too," South Alabama coach Steve Campbell said.
