It's too early to say if Cephus Johnson will be South Alabama starting quarterback this fall, but it might be telling that the redshirt freshman was the first at his position on the field at Saturday's Red-Blue spring game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
With presumptive frontrunner Dallas Davis having left the team suddenly on Thursday, Johnson shared first-team reps with senior Cole Garvin on Saturday. The former Davidson High School standout completed 9 of 12 passes for 126 yards, including touchdown passes of 44 yards to Jamarius Way and 30 yards to Kawaan Baker in a 31-0 victory for the Red team.
