Mississippi State has announced that Nick Fitzgerald will start at quarterback against South Alabama on Saturday.
The announcement came one hour prior to kickoff (11 a.m., SEC Network) between the Bulldogs and Jaguars at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi. Fitzgerald beat out junior Damian Williams to be the Bulldogs' starter, although Williams is also expected to play Saturday.
Fitzgerald, a redshirt sophomore, appeared in eight games in 2015 as the primary back-up to Dak Prescott. Fitzgerald completed 11 of 14 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions last season, while rushing for 127 yards and three scores.
