MOBILE, Ala. – Graduate students Chloe McGlade and Athanasia Moraitou had a goal and an assist each to lead the University of South Alabama soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Stetson Sunday afternoon at The Cage.
The Jags have now won three straight to move to 3-0-1 on the year. Stetson falls to 1-3.
GAME FACTS
- Moraitou and McGlade teamed up for the Jaguars' first goal in the 28th minute to send USA into intermission with a 1-0 lead
- McGlade added the team's second at 56:56 when graduate Tabea Griss fed her at the top of the box following a corner kick
- Senior Briana Morris tacked on the third goal of the night just 1:24 later on a short-range header from a cross by Moraitou
- Stetson struck back 2 ½ minutes later after having a player sent off; Maggie Struble converted on a through-ball from Lindsey Parent
- South Alabama put the game out of reach with two late goals
- Junior Ana Helmert put in her own rebound off the post at 74:31, and sophomore Morgan Cross put home a pass from freshman Gracie Wilson 1:23 before the final whistle
- USA goalkeeper Justice Stanford saw just two shots and made one save; the Hatters' Lara Bates allowed all five goals and made eight stops
NOTES
- South Alabama outshot Stetson 31-2 and held a 64%-36% advantage in possession
- Moraitou and McGlade each had five shots; Moraitou put three on net and McGlade hit the target twice
- Morris has scored a goal in every game this season and has a six-match point streak dating back to last season; she leads the Sun Belt Conference in goals (6) and points (13)
- The Jaguars are unbeaten after four games for the first time since the 2015 squad opened the year 4-0
- Moraitou also leads the conference in assists
