NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama right-hander Tyler Carr was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and catcher Carter Perkins was named the SBC Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Carr (7-2) tossed a career-high nine innings in last Friday's win at Texas State, marking the first complete game of his Jaguar career, and allowed one run on one hit with six strikeouts against three walks to earn the win, which marked his sixth consecutive victory in as many starts.
He retired 22 of the first 24 Bobcat batters he faced in the game, with a two-out walk to Ryan Newman in the second inning and a one-out walk by Newman in the bottom of the eighth as the only drawbacks.
