JAG BASEBALL SIGNS SUMERLIN TO NLI

MOBILE, Ala. – Torrence Sumerlin signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of South Alabama baseball program for the 2016-17 season, as announced Thursday by head coach Mark Calvi.

Sumerlin batted .364 with 16 doubles, one triple, 22 home runs, 74 RBI, 55 runs scored and three stolen bases in 56 games for Allen County (Kan.) Community College last season. He posted a .447 on-base percentage and .795 slugging percentage while hitting safely in 42 of 56 contests. His 22 home runs ranked tied for sixth in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I. He earned first-team all-region VI honors as a utility player, as well as first-team all-conference selection by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
