MOBILE, Ala. – Left-handed pitcher Andres Arguelles signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of South Alabama baseball program for the 2016-17 season, as announced Thursday by head coach Mark Calvi.
Arguelles was named the 2016 Miami Herald All-Dade 9A-7A Pitcher of the Year, and was also a 9A-7A first-team all-Dade County selection after going 13-1 with 119 strikeouts against 33 walks and a 0.84 ERA while also recording five complete games, three shutouts and three no-hitters in 15 appearances for Christopher Columbus High School in Miami.
The 6-0, 175-pound southpaw tossed a no-hitter in the Region 4-9A semifinal, and followed that performance with a complete game in the region final – allowing just one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks – to lead CCHS to the Florida High School Athletic Association class 9A state championship round.
