TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of South Alabama women's tennis junior Yu Fujioka won a pair of singles matches to advance to the final of the Alexa Guarachi Draw Friday at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
Juniors Milka Pasanen and Nikola Kohoutova, and senior Leslie Soto split two matches each in singles, and Fujioka and Kohoutova won a doubles match as well.
DOUBLES
- Fujioka and Kohoutova won in the Hilde Otterman Draw, defeating Ava Markham and Charmaine Seah of Wisconsin 6-3
- In the Allison Eager Draw, Alisha Reayer and Monique Woog of Memphis downed Pasanen and Soto 6-2
SINGLES
- Fujioka won her first match in straight sets – 6-4, 6-2 – over Indiana's Jelly Bozovic before outlasting Markham 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the semifinals
- Soto defeated Grace Anne Jones of Ole Miss 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, but lost 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals to Alexia Witthaus Vine of UAB in the Titia Wilmink Draw
- Pasanen and Kohoutova each lost their first outing of the day but rebounded to advance in their respective consolation bracket
- In the Amy Mascotti Draw, Pasanen dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Lina Hohnhold of Memphis before defeating Daphne Pratt of UT Martin 6-2, 4-6, 6-1
- Indiana's Lexi Kubas needed three sets to get past Kohoutova 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, but Kohoutova dropped Seah 6-1, 6-3 in the Alice Tunaru Draw
