Brian Ankerson has played in exactly one game in his college career, but there's a very good chance he'll be starting at center when South Alabama opens the season Sept. 1 against Louisiana Tech.
And when Ankerson takes the field for the Jaguars, he'll do so as a newly minted scholarship player. The redshirt sophomore from Theodore found out prior to an offseason workout in July that he was no longer a walk-on; head coach Steve Campbell was putting him on scholarship.
"It's a dream come true," Ankerson said. "It's something I've been working for for two years.
