Former South Alabama star David Freese delivers 2016 MLB season's first hit

The temperature at the time of the first pitch in Sunday's St. Louis Cardinals-Pittsburgh Pirates game was 39 degrees. So perhaps it was appropriate that the first hit of the 2016 MLB season came off the bat of David Freese in Pittsburgh's 4-1 victory.

The former South Alabama standout delivered a single up the middle in the first inning.

In his first regular-season game with the Pirates, Freese played against the Cardinals for the first time. Freese won the 2011 World Series MVP Award playing for St. Louis and represented the Cards at the 2012 All-Star Game.
