Former South Alabama baseball star Drew LaBounty gets coaching job

Former South Alabama baseball star Drew LaBounty will begin his coaching career on the junior-college level.

LaBounty, who suffered a career-ending eye injury prior to the 2018 season, has been hired as an assistant coach at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Mississippi, the school announced Friday. He will work with hitters and infielders, in addition to recruiting responsibilities.

"When we were looking to add a coach to our staff I received several calls on him from people in the baseball coaching circle," PRCC head coach Michael Avalon said. "He could not have been more highly recommended by people I trust.
