Former Alabama basketball player Andrew Steele hired to South Alabama staff

South Alabama has promoted former Alabama basketball player Andrew Steele to director of basketball operations, the school announced Wednesday.

Steele, 27, served as a graduate assistant for the Jaguars last season. In his new role, he replaces Jordan Surenkamp, who left to join the staff of the NBA G League's Long Island Nets.

"I'm extremely excited to add Andrew to our basketball staff in an administrative role," USA coach Matthew Graves said. "He has an extremely bright future in the coaching profession and I look forward to working with him for another year."

Steele played at Alabama from 2008-13, averaging 4.
