Former South Carolina lineman Darius Whitfield, a Mobile native, will transfer to South Alabama, AL.com has confirmed.
Whitfield spent the 2017 season at Southwest Mississippi Community College, totaling 51 tackles and a sack on the defensive line. The former St. Paul's Episcopal School standout redshirted as a freshman at South Carolina in 2016, so he will have three years to play two seasons at South Alabama beginning this fall.
Whitfield announced the news via Twitter on Tuesday:
From SEC to JUCO had to be one of the hardest parts of my life. It humbled me.
