South Alabama's 2017 baseball season ended as so many had before it, with a disappointing finish in an NCAA Regional.
The Jaguars have never advanced past the regional round, either in the old 6-team regional system or in the 4-team regional era that followed the adoption of Super Regionals in 1999. The 2017 USA team went 40-21 and won the Sun Belt Conference tournament for the first time in 12 years, but left coach Mark Calvi wistful in the aftermath of a season-ending loss to Mississippi State in the Hattiesburg Regional on Sunday night.
"It's hard to say goodbye to some kids, especially your seniors," Calvi said.
