World Cup: England advances to knockout stage in win over Colombia, 2-0

Karen Carney and Fara Williams scored first-half goals, and England beat Colombia, 2-1, at Montreal on Wednesday to reach the knockout stage of the Women's World Cup.

The Lionesses (2-1) finished second to France in Group F on goal difference and will play Norway on Monday in the round of 16.

Colombia (1-1-1) already had clinched a second-round berth; its opponent has not been determined.

Carney scored in the 15th minute with a left-footed shot through the legs of goalkeeper Sandra Sepulveda, who allowed a rebound on her diving save of Stephanie Houghton's initial shot.

Williams converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute after Canadian referee Carol Anne Chenard called a handball on Carolina Arias, who was sliding to stop a shot.
