Why winning the Clasico matters

Coincidentally, the last time Barcelona and Real Madrid slugged it out in a Clasico with each side coached by their own former players was also a night when Zinedine Zidane and Luis Enrique went toe to toe on the pitch.

It was the 2002 Champions League semifinal, first leg. In the dugouts that Lucho and Zizou will occupy on Saturday were Charly Rexach, local born winger and one-time Johan Cruyff consiglieri, plus Vicente Del Bosque, an imperious midfielder and serial trophy winner for Madrid in the 1970's and 1980's.

This weekend, Rexach will be in the Camp Nou to pay homage to his long-time friend and guru, Cruyff.
