'Vodka became my best friend' - Sneijder regrets 'rock-and-roll' lifestyle at Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid star Wesley Sneijder admits that he has regrets over the “rock-and-roll” lifestyle he had during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.

The ex-Netherlands international playmaker joined Los Blancos from Ajax in 2007 for €27 million (£24.5m/$30m) but departed two years later for €15m to Inter.

While he struggled at the Spanish giants, he excelled in Italy, leading Inter to the Champions League in 2010 – a year in which many critics felt he would have been a worthy winner of the Ballon d’Or.
