Villar named acting chairman of World Cup Organizing Committee

The long-time head of football in Spain is currently replacing Michel Platini at UEFA and he has now been entrusted with representing the body in organizing Russia 2018.

President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Angel Maria Villar has been named acting chairman of the World Cup Organizing Committee.

The Spaniard takes over as UEFA's representative in the body, with current interim FIFA president Issa Hayatou also joining as the world organization's man while Hany Abo Rida represents the CAF.

With 851 qualifying matches scheduled for Russia 2018, the committee has formed a specific bureau and emergency bureau to organize the various preliminary competitions.
