A defensive error from the South American champion allowed Lars Stindl to find a goal in the 20th minute
After a dominant start from Chile in the Confederations Cup final, it was Germany that was able to take the lead in the first half.
Marcelo Diaz was caught with the ball at the back and tried to keep possession instead of passing back to goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. But he failed to keep Timo Werner from picking his pocket. After Bravo left his line, Werner played a square ball to Stindl. The Borussia Monchengladbach forward was able to tap in and give the reigning world champion the lead against the run of play.
