Vermes: Sporting KC 'didn't play together as a group'

The Sporting Kansas City coach lamented his team's performance in a stunning 5-0 loss to the visiting San Jose Earthquakes.

Four days after Sporting Kansas City relied on late-game heroics to keep its home unbeaten streak alive, Peter Vermes' side again played with fire — and this time ended up badly burnt.

Sporting KC lost at home for the first time in 2015, dropping a 5-0 result to the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday at Sporting Park. It was the club's worst defeat at home since 2001.

Cordell Cato opened the scoring in the third minute before Chris Wondolowski converted a penalty pick and Anibal Godoy bagged his first MLS goal to make it 3-0 by the 27-minute mark.
