The Sporting Kansas City coach praised his goalkeeper, who made six saves in a 0-0 draw against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.
Tim Melia continues to make a name for himself in MLS.
A year after initially joining Sporting Kansas City as a call-up from the league's pool of emergency goalkeepers, Melia now is the club's unquestioned starter in goal. Making his 17th start of the season Wednesday, the 29-year-old tied a career high with six saves in Sporting KC's 0-0 draw with the Portland Timbers at Providence Park.
Melia came up particularly big when he charged off his line to deny Lucas Melano's second-half breakaway, helping steal a point for fifth-place Kansas City (11-7-8) against sixth-place Portland (11-9-8).
