Take yourself back to when Louis van Gaal was appointed Manchester United manager in the summer of 2014, following the painful and pathetic reign of David Moyes.
There were hopes and dreams and a belief Manchester United might play entertaining football again. Or, at the very least, not be a laughing stock. Videos circulated with images of Van Gaal prowling the touchline, cajoling players. He reenacted a kung fu kick on the sidelines during a European Cup final, for goodness sake. He was, seemingly, box office.
Fast forward to November 2015 and boredom prevails. Van Gaal's United are excruciating to watch and people are walking out before games have finished.
