United has agreed a deal to sign the Netherlands international from PSV Eindhoven, with Depay completing a medical in Manchester on Monday.
But Van Gaal has warned supporters that the 21-year-old will need time to adapt to life in the Premier League, and also says that he intends to continue blooding young players in the starting XI next season.
