USA vs. Panama: Jurgen Klinsmann out to 'prove a point' in friendly

The U.S. coach wants his team to rebound after a poor showing in the Gold Cup with a crucial date against Mexico looming.

United States national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called on his side to "prove a point" when it faces Peru in Washington on Thursday.

The Americans host Peru in their first international match since a disappointing CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign, in which they were dumped out by Jamaica in the semifinals before losing to Panama in the third-place game.

And Klinsmann, who has recalled goalkeeper Tim Howard to his squad after a 14-month sabbatical from international soccer, is aiming for an immediate return to form ahead of the CONCACAF Confederations Cup playoff against Mexico in October.
