U.S. Soccer is continuing a significant overhaul of its developmental program with the hiring of the top sports scientist in England’s Premier League, who will join the federation this month as its director of high performance.
In the newly created position, the scientist, James Bunce, will be responsible for creating a high-performance sports science and sports medicine plan for the federation and overseeing its enactment for all programs, most notably with the youth national teams. The move is part of a broader, holistic effort by U.S. Soccer to identify prospects and provide them the support and the coaching that will produce the kind of world-class talent the United States has long coveted.
