U.S. coach Ellis takes drama out of World Cup squad selection

There were no surprises as the U.S. national team coach unveiled her 23-player roster for the Women's World Cup in Canada.

To any United States soccer fans still flummoxed by Jurgen Klinsmann's World Cup squad selection nearly a year ago, Jill Ellis has offered a welcome dose of predictability.

While Klinsmann jolted the American soccer community by abruptly cutting Landon Donovan from his team three weeks before last summer's tournament, Ellis proved to be the antithesis of her counterpart Tuesday. Finalizing her roster for the Women's World Cup six weeks before the deadline, the 48-year-old coach went with the 23 players most would have predicted.
