U.S. beats Costa Rica 4-0

The United States got its Copa America Centenario campaign back on track with a 4-0 win against Costa Rica on Tuesday.

The Americans were under pressure after losing the tournament opener to Colombia, knowing a loss would end the team's chances of advancing to the knockout round.

The U.S. was handed a perfect start to the game when the referee awarded the Americans a penalty kick in the seventh minute after Cristian Gamboa pushed Bobby Wood to the ground. Clint Dempsey stepped up and calmly slotted home past Patrick Pemberton to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead.
