The midfielder, who was handed a suspended seven-month jail sentence in 2013 for possession of a fake driving licence, will not go on the preseason tour with Newcastle United.
Steve McClaren has confirmed that Cheikh Tiote has been left out of Newcastle United's tour of the United States after he was refused a visa.
Obtaining visas can be difficult for people with criminal convictions, with Tiote handed a suspended seven-month jail sentence and 180 hours community service in 2013 for possession of a fake driver's licence.
Tiote has, therefore, been left at home to train, with McClaren telling the Newcastle Chronicle: "He has had visa complications and trying to get him over the visa issue has been difficult, but it wasn't successful.
