Two goals from Tim Cahill saw Australia edge past 10-man Syria after extra-time to move one step closer to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup
Having edged past Syria 3-2 on aggregate over two legs, Australia will now take on the team which finishes fourth in CONCACAF, with the winner claiming a place at next summer's finals.
Tamer Haj Mohamad broke well to play in Omar Al Soma who put Syria ahead in the seventh minute, but Australia were level on 12 minutes when Cahill was left unmarked to head home James Troisi's cross.
From there no side could make the breakthrough and the game went to extra time.
