Andre-Pierre Gignac and Damian Alvarez earned Tigres a place in the CONCACAF Champions League Final with a 4-1 aggregate victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Following a 2-0 defeat in Nuevo Leon, the Whitecaps’ task was billed as near-impossible, but took a shock lead when Brek Shea fired home the breakthrough after just three minutes.
The goal appeared to have injected some vigor into the visiting side, but their dominance didn’t pay dividends until the second half. In the 63rd minute, Gignac thumped in a long-range shot past David Ousted to essentially kill off the tie in Tigres’ favor.
