Thomas McNamara, David Villa and Kwadwo Poku scored second-half goals, and New York City F.C. beat visiting D.C. United, 3-1, in their first matchup.

Villa had the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute after a D.C. United turnover near midfield and an assist from Andrea Pirlo. Poku finished with a goal in the 88th.

N.Y.C.F.C. (7-11-6) ended a two-game losing streak, while D.C. United (13-8-5), which leads the Eastern Conference, had a three-game winning streak ended.

Alvaro Saborio opened the scoring in the 36th minute for D.C. United. McNamara tied the match at 1-1 in the 51st minute.
