Sports Briefing | Soccer: Jill Ellis Gets New Contract to Coach U.S. Women’s Team

Jill Ellis, who coached the United States to the Women’s World Cup title last month, agreed to a new multiyear contract to guide the Americans, the United States Soccer Federation said Wednesday.

Ellis, 48, masterminded the United States women’s run to their first Cup title since 1999, which ended with a 5-2 win over Japan in the final. She appears set to guide the Americans into qualifying for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, as well as the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France and possibly even the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She has a 29-2-9 record as coach of the United States women, including two stints as an interim coach.
