Spanish Supercup moves to a “Final Four” format, possibly in Saudi Arabia

The Spanish football federation has approved a change in the format to the Spanish Supercup starting next season, moving to a four-team format in January.

Previously, the Supercup pitted the winners of La Liga against the winners of the Copa del Rey in a two-legged affair, home and away. This season, it was a single match played in Morocco.

Now, four teams will qualify, the winners and runners-up to La Liga and the cup. As things stand, that means Barcelona will qualify as La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid as league runners-up, and Valencia as either winners or runners-up of the cup.
