According to reports from the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has doubts over sanctioning a deal to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon.

Signing a top striker is one of Rafael Benitez’s top priorities this summer, and Rondon has been touted as a potential target for the Magpies.

Rondon has a clause in his contract which means he can move for just £16.5 million after West Bromwich Albion were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Benitez has a limited budget to work with, and Ashley has concerns over sanctioning the deal.
