In the quest to find the elite soccer club in South America, River Plate and Santa Fe battled to a 0-0 draw during Thursday night's first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana at El Campin in Bogota, Colombia, home of Santa Fe.
The Colombians won the Copa Sudamericana last season, while Argentine giants River Plate took the Copa Libertadores to set up the clash.
In a game that was bogged down in midfield early, the hosts started off better in the first half, possessing 53 percent of the possession while firing five shots, though only two of them went on goal, matching the number of shots River Plate was able to record in the first 45 minutes.
