France confirmed on Saturday that Samuel Umtiti has picked up a foot injury while on international duty with the world champions.
There is no information yet as to how serious the injury is but it’s enough to rule him out of Les Bleus’ Euro 2020 clash with Albania at the Stade de France.
It’s possible Umtiti would have been on the bench for the game anyway. He hasn’t managed a minute for Barcelona yet this season and has fallen behind Clement Lenglet in the pecking order.
Lenglet does start France’s game alongside Raphael Varane in the heart of the France defence, while Antoine Griezmann is also in the starting XI for the world champions.
