After watching his team exit the Women's World Cup in tragic fashion, Mark Sampson praised England's performance.
Coach Mark Sampson labelled Laura Bassett "an absolute hero" after the defender scored an own goal to eliminate England on Wednesday.
"Laura Bassett's name is on that scoresheet but she has epitomized the team," Sampson said. "She has been courageous, strong and she doesn't deserve that. She is a hero, an absolute hero, that is how she will be remembered."
Japan triumphed 2-1 in the Women's World Cup semifinal in Edmonton thanks to Bassett's late misfortune, to reach back-to-back deciders.
