Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko scored in the second half as Roma beat visiting Juventus, its bitter rival for the Serie A title, by 2-1 on Sunday, leaving Juventus with two straight losses at the start of the league season for the first time in its history.
With Roma dominating from the start, it was an early signal that the soccer hierarchy could change in Italy.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon hardly moved when Pjanic drove a free kick over Juventus’s wall and into the left corner of the goal shortly after the hour mark.
Juventus fullback Patrice Evra was later sent off after receiving a second yellow card, and then in the 79th minute, Dzeko headed home a ball inside the box for his first goal since he joined Roma on loan from Manchester City.
