Chelsea’s dreary opening 45 minutes against visiting Everton on Saturday made way for a thrilling second half that started with an own goal by Chelsea defender John Terry and ended with Terry’s scoring in the eighth minute of stoppage time to clinch a 3-3 draw in a Premier League game.
But even Chelsea Manager Guus Hiddink — unbeaten since replacing the fired José Mourinho last month — accepted that Terry, Chelsea’s captain, was offside when he flicked the ball past goalkeeper Tim Howard in stoppage time.
Everton Manager Roberto Martínez was angry that the referee had allowed an additional minute of injury time; just seven had been indicated on the fourth official’s board not long after Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori made the score 3-2 in the 90th minute.
