Rooney ruled out of England clash with Estonia

The Manchester United captain will remain with the squad ahead of its final Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania, with Gary Cahill taking the armband at Wembley.

England captain Wayne Rooney will miss the Three Lions' Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia after picking up a knock while playing for Manchester United.

The striker has not trained with Roy Hodgson's squad since the players met up on Tuesday, but will remain with the team for its final clash against Lithuania.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill will captain the side in Rooney's absence as the team looks to finish the qualification campaign with two victories, and the forward will receive a commemorative golden boot from Sir Bobby Charlton, whose all-time goal-scoring record he beat last month.
