Birkir Bjarnason's second-half volley earned Iceland a gallant 1-1 draw against Portugal at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne, France, on Tuesday at the 2016 UEFA European Championships.
A Nani goal in the 31st minute gave the Selecao the lead their first-half dominance deserved, as he capped off a neat passing move. Portugal were caught cold at the start of the second period, though, as Bjarnason hammered home an equaliser; it was parity his team gamely clung on to despite waves of pressure late on.
On the cusp of Iceland's first-ever match at a major tournament, Breathe Sport summed up just what an incredible feat they'd achieved and what remarkable support they had in France:
10% of Iceland's entire population is in Saint-Etienne tonight to support their side.
