BALTIMORE — The United States advanced to the semifinals of the 2015 Gold Cup by routing Cuba, 6-0, on a hot Saturday evening at M&T Bank Stadium. The U.S. team was boosted by Clint Dempsey’s first hat trick of his international career in what proved to be its best performance of the tournament so far.
The Cubans entered the game shorthanded, with five players having defected since their arrival. After a lopsided 6-0 loss to Mexico and a 2-0 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba advanced to the knockout rounds only because of a 1-0 upset win over Guatemala.
